B'p Auckland Market
A revitalised Bishop Auckland market opens for business at 9am on Thursday morning in the town’s Market Place.
Durham Markets Company has taken over operation of Bishop Auckland’s Thursday Market, and is aiming to reinvigorate it with the support of new and current traders. Around 20 traders are preparing for Thursday’s market, where they will be offering a selection of products including local cheese, traditional sweets, cupcakes, baked goods, spicy sauces, gift ideas, prints, silk flowers, fish and chips, baked potatoes and more.
Colin Wilkes, Managing Director of Durham Markets Company, commented: “There’s a real enthusiasm for this market, from both traders keen to be involved and local people eager to support the market. Now’s the time for everyone in and around Bishop Auckland to come along, meet our traders and find out about products they’re selling. Remember, any money you can spend with these small independent businesses is then pumped into our local economy, and that’s great news for Bishop Auckland.
“We’re concentrating initially on the weekly Thursday market and would love to hear from anyone who would like to trade at Bishop Auckland Market, as the greater the variety of traders we can have with us each week, the greater the appeal of the market.”
Colin is keen to make sure the people of Bishop Auckland know about the efforts being made by traders to make the market a success. He added: “It’s not just down to the traders alone. They need the support of the public. The combination of both will make the Market the success. We are keen for the market to become a community focal point, so we’re encouraging community groups to get involved, either by selling, promoting or entertaining. We will also offer a free stall to a charity fundraising group each Thursday.”
